ISL will celebrates its 10th landmark season, with 21st September set to be the kick-off date of this season as announced by FSDL (Football Sports Development Limited).
It will be first season where I-league winner competes, there by increasing the number of clubs by 12. Punjab FC became the first ever club to be promoted in Indian Super League by winning the 2022-23 I-League season. Twelve teams which will feature in this 2023-24 season are as follows: Mohun Bagan Super Giants (Defending Champions), Mumbai City FC (Runners-Up), Bengaluru FC, Chennaiyin FC, Goa FC, Hyderabad FC, Jamshedpur FC, Kerala Blasters FC, NorthEast United FC, Odisha FC and newly promoted Punjab FC.
The first opening match of the season will be between Kerala Blasters and Bengaluru FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi on 21st September, 2023. With mouthwatering Kolkata Derby between Mohun Bagan Super Giants and East Bengal FC on 28th September in YBK Stadium. All ISL matches will start at 8:00 PM. The matches will be played at 11 venues,. Whereas, both Mohun Bagan and East Bengal will share the Salt Lake Stadium as their home venue.
This season will see new broadcasters as Viacom18 have been roped in as the official broadcasting partners of Indian Super League. As Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL) announced Viacom Media Private Limited as the new home of Indian Football’ for the 2023-24 and 2024-25 seasons. The telecast will be available for football fans in multiple languages keeping in mind the diverse audience of the league, and will also be streamed free on Jio Cinema. Further changes will also come into fold from this season, as per the new AFC Club Competition Ranking Structure, ISL clubs will not be eligible for a slot in the AFC Champions League, instead, the league premiers will qualify for the AFC Cup group stage, rebranded as AFC Champions League 2.
Last year’s champions Mohun Bagan FC was officially renamed as Mohun Bagan Super Giants (SG) on June 1, after team owner Sanjeev Goenka announced that Mohun Bagan FC will be renamed on June 17. Meanwhile, Mohun Bagan SG has also the Durand Cup for record 17th time pipping East Bengal FC by 1-0.
