“Manchester United’s Woes Deepen: Amorim Admits ‘Worst Team in Club History'”

Manchester United coach Ruben Amorim faced a significant setback on Sunday as his team suffered a 1-3 defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion at Old Trafford, dropping them to 13th place in the English Premier League 2024/25 standings.

The Portuguese manager did not mince words after the loss, stating, “The worst team maybe in the history of Manchester United.” It marked United’s fourth defeat in five home games this season.

Brighton took an early lead just five minutes into the game, with winger Yankuba Minteh breezing past defender Noussair Mazraoui to score. However, Manchester United managed to equalise in the 23rd minute when skipper Bruno Fernandes converted a penalty, providing a glimmer of hope for the home crowd.

The second half started with a scare for United when Jao Pedro found the back of the net in the 53rd minute, but VAR disallowed the goal, offering a brief respite for the hosts. However, disaster struck in the 60th minute when goalkeeper André Onana’s blunder allowed Kaoru Mitoma to restore Brighton’s lead with a crucial tap-in, despite colliding with the post.

Despite United’s desperate attempts to claw back into the game, they struggled to find rhythm and eventually conceded another goal, sealing a 1-3 defeat and leaving the Theatre of Dreams in stunned silence.

The loss adds to Manchester United’s growing woes, raising serious questions about the team’s form and Amorim’s ability to turn the season around.

Secondly, it’s now hard to predict in which place Manchester United will end up at the end of the season, as the football pundits have called out for open-heart surgery on Manchester United by clearing out the squad, as earlier advised by former manager Ralf Ragnick.

Manchester United’s sixth home Premier League loss of the season—their most from their first 12 home games of a league season since 1893–94—was another concerning statistic. Second, in their last 22 games this season, United has dropped 10 of them.

Ruben Amorim remains adamant about sticking to his way despite the 3-4-3 formation controversy.
