My short conversation with West Indies All-rounder Daren Ganga

esterday was a day I will not forget as I had my first conversation with an international cricketer, Mr. Daren Ganga. Although his name seems to be as he is Indian but no, he hails from Barrackpore (I am not talking about West Bengal but it’s a town in Southern Trinidad and Tobago).

Honestly speaking I didn’t know or have information about his presence in the field as an assignment I was told to cover a game in Dr. Akilesh Das Gupta stadium, coincidently I found this cricketer and had the pleasure to speak with him. The match was between Indian Eleven Cricket Club and Central Cricket Academy, while watching the game I notice many people standing and introducing themselves to a person (Daren Ganga), so I asked scorer Vikas Gupta the reason behind this crowd then he took me and introduced me to Darren Ganga. Being a cricket enthusiast, I used to watch this stylish West Indies all- rounder on television, but now it was my golden chance to have a talk with Daren Ganga and took it.

First think he told me that he founds Lucknow to be a host to IPL games, next he talks about how he made his international debut in August 1998 with team playing in South Africa. As told by Darren Ganga at 19 years he was the youngest Trinidad and Tobago in 35 years to make the test side. He also has many friends in this West Indian side with whom he played almost for many years. Talking about his family he has strong bonding with India as his wife is from Indian origin Pranita Tiwari Ganga.

Another topic which we took was the future of West Indies cricket, which he also accepts that this was serious topic after seeing internal clash between star players like Sunil Narine, Chris Gayle, Dwayne Bravo etc., and WICB (West Indies Cricket Board), although he believed that it could very well be resolved only if the player and the board had talks. Honestly, he was sad to see some kinds of downfalls of West Indies Cricket.
